GDPR & Shredding
GDPR affects how businesses dispose of private information at the office or home office. You need to ensure that the proper details are recorded and kept. We can help you to get all your documents that are ‘no longer needed’ destroyed in a certifiable, compliant and sustainable way.
How does GDPR affect the UK?
Enforced by the UK government, ‘The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)’ started in 25th May 2018. These laws are similar to the current UK’s Data Protection Act with some key differences. It’s main goal is to extend the legal rights of people whose information is stored and processed by businesses. Therefore businesses who wish to trade with the EU and its citizens, regardless of membership to the EU, will need to ensure compliance with the new requirements.
GDPR affects all ‘sensitive information’, whether that’s invoices, customer receipts, business financials, contracts or documents containing passwords/PINs, CVs etc.
How does it affect my business ?
We recommend that you seek professional advice to ensure compliancy. As part of that, businesses should review how their sensitive information is destroyed after use. Robust policies should be put into place and many businesses may find that subcontracting these new measures will be a secure and cost-effective solution. Please see our ‘process‘ page for the options available.
Note: We issue a ‘Certification of Destruction’ for all of the documents we shred. This will help with your GDPR compliance.
